The Learning Institute develops mathematics assessments for grades 1-8, Algebra I (Grade 8, Algebra A, Algebra B), Geometry (Investigating Geometry, Geometry A, Geometry B) and Algebra II (new for 2007-2008 school year). TLI assists districts in aligning their existing curriculum to the state frameworks and building modular units for instruction and assessment based on this alignment.
Each mathematics assessment typically includes up to twenty (20) enhanced multiple choice items and an open response question. Question types, vocabulary used, and mathematics conventions are designed to familiarize students with how the state has historically presented student learning expectations on the frameworks and state assessments for each particular grade level. The Learning Institute typically provides up to eight (8) assessments per subject/grade per academic year.
Items are developed by TLI staff and a carefully chosen seasonal staff of teachers from around the state who work with TLI during the summer months to produce high quality assessment items unique to The Learning Institute item banks. The Learning Institute does not use Arkansas released items or released items from other states on assessments. Doing so would severely impact the reliability and validity of any assessment system. Additionally, the TLI item bank is completely replaced every year so that we may release all of the items used in our assessments for use by classroom teachers and districts for remediation and other instructional purposes.
All assessments are specifically aligned with each district's specific curriculum requirements. During the 2006-2007 school year TLI produced more than 2500 unique math assessments each tailored to our member districts' curriculum alignments and assessment needs.
